The storyline is about Hawkeye writing a letter to President Harry S. Truman. He is writing the letter to request an end to the war.  Near the middle/end of the show Pierce is on duty and seals the envelope and requests Nurse Kellye to have it mailed.  In closing scenes, he is still writing the letter to Harry.
